INFORMAL ADVOCACY AGREEMENT

This agreement is for voluntary support and advocacy. It is not legal representation.

Purpose of this agreement

This agreement sets out the nature of voluntary support provided by The Reasonable Adjustment. It confirms that this is not legal representation. Support is informal, lived experience based advocacy, offered with your consent and within the boundaries of UK law.

What I may offer

With your consent, I may support you in the following ways:

  • Drafting or structuring complaints, Subject Access Requests, or Freedom of Information requests
  • Helping you understand and exercise your rights under the Equality Act 2010, UK GDPR, and other relevant laws
  • Contacting organisations, agencies, or services on your behalf, with clear written or recorded consent
  • Raising awareness of your situation anonymously, if you agree
  • Supporting written communications or public statements to keep them clear, strategic, and assertive

All actions will be carried out in line with UK GDPR and other applicable legislation. I do not routinely process or retain special category personal data, for example health, disability, or mental health information. Where this type of information arises and it is necessary to use it, I will only do so with your explicit consent and only for the agreed purpose.

What I will not do

  • I do not provide legal advice or legal representation
  • I am not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or any legal body
  • I do not act in any official legal or clinical capacity
  • I do not represent people in court or at formal legal hearings
  • I do not hold myself out as a lawyer, solicitor, or barrister

Confidentiality and data use

  • I will only act on your behalf with your clear consent
  • Any personal data you share will be used only for the agreed purpose
  • Special category data will not be kept unless strictly necessary and agreed in writing
  • Data used for agreed purposes will be deleted or anonymised once support concludes, subject to any lawful need to retain records, for example to evidence consent
  • I will not share your data with third parties without your consent, except where required by law
  • You may withdraw your consent at any time

Preferred communication

Your consent

  • You understand this is informal, voluntary support
  • You consent for The Reasonable Adjustment to provide support in the ways described above

Important

The Reasonable Adjustment provides informal, peer style support. We do not provide legal advice, we are not a law firm, and we are not legally qualified professionals. Nothing on this page is legal advice. For legal advice, contact a qualified solicitor or regulated advice service.

Our informal advocacy page explains our limits and approach in more detail.
