Terms of Use Updated

We’ve updated the Terms of Use for The Reasonable Adjustment.

For 99% of people, nothing changes. If you arrive from search or a link, read an article, maybe click another page, and leave, you’ll experience the site exactly as before.

Why we updated the Terms

A small portion of traffic behaves very differently from normal readers. It tends to be fresh connections that jump straight to tags, categories, or older posts, often repeatedly, often with patterns consistent with probing or bulk extraction.

That behaviour disproportionately affects the site in two ways.

  • Site statistics become distorted. It creates noise that drowns out genuine reader behaviour, which makes it harder to understand what content is actually landing and what needs improving.
  • Cloudflare Worker costs increase. Security logic still has to execute per request, even when the visit isn’t a real reader. That means a small amount of suspicious activity can create a disproportionate infrastructure cost.

The updated Terms are there to protect normal access, keep the platform usable, and make expectations explicit for anyone attempting to use automation or surveillance-style access.

What changed

  • Clearer rules on automation and extraction. The Terms now explicitly prohibit scraping, automation, and large scale extraction without permission.
  • Clearer rules on probing and bypass attempts. Attempts to probe, scan, or bypass security controls are explicitly prohibited.
  • Clearer security and access controls. Certain areas of the site may require a normal browsing flow, and may apply friction or temporary restrictions where risk signals are present.
  • Clearer enforcement. We may restrict or block access where behaviour is suspicious or harmful, and preserve relevant logs where needed for security and safeguarding purposes.

Need data from the site?

If you’re a researcher, journalist, organisation, or member of the public and you want specific information or data from the site, you are welcome to request it directly.

Email is the correct route. Scraping, probing, and “quiet monitoring” is not.
