Mr Dingleson, this one’s for you.
Nigel Wright, Service Address Obstruction, and a Blocked SAR
What began as a straightforward request for confirmation of a valid service address for Mr Mark Simpson, trustee of The Recruitment Junction, became a case study in how organisations make simple things hard. I asked for an address for service. I did not ask for editorialising. I received editorialising anyway.
Context on tone: Mr Dingleson is the Group Finance Director. I am thrilled he is great with numbers, but his reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired, and I suppose that is not in his job description.
The service address request
I asked Nigel Wright Group to confirm a lawful route for service for Mr Simpson. The options were clear and reasonable. Provide a postal service address, confirm service by email, or identify an authorised representative. Instead of clarity, I got minimisation and a confident summary of my website and chat that missed the point.
The obstructed complaint
When I attempted to raise a formal complaint through live chat, the chat was closed before I could complete the process. That is not a customer service hiccup, it is an obstruction of a rights based complaint route. I recorded it.
The SAR that was blocked
Given the handling above, I submitted a Subject Access Request under Article 15 UK GDPR covering my emails, internal notes created as a result of my contact, and any audit trails relied on to claim my website and chat were reviewed. That request was then blocked at the communication level. Blocking a SAR does not stop the clock, it simply adds another line to the evidence list.
What this shows
- Process over attitude. A lawful request for a service address is not an invitation to minimise or editorialise.
- Complaint routes must stay open. Closing a chat mid complaint is not a good look, and it is not defensible.
- Data rights are not optional. Blocking a SAR does not erase the obligation to respond, it only raises the stakes.
Next steps
The evidence will be retained and published so the record is clear. If Nigel Wright Group wishes to correct course, they can confirm a service route, acknowledge the SAR properly, and ensure preservation is in place over all records in scope. Simple steps, no drama required.
