Labour Party: No Response To Conduct Concern, Barring One Unparliamentary Email
Date: 29 August 2025
By: Kieron JH, The Reasonable Adjustment
On 25 August 2025 I raised a standards complaint with Labour Party HQ about the handling of constituent correspondence by the office of Kate Osborne MP. As of today, 29 August 2025, I have received no acknowledgement or formal response from the Party. The only contact so far has been a dismissive email from the acting office manager, Cameron, who is the subject of the complaint. That is not impartial, it is not appropriate, and it fails basic expectations for professional standards.
Where to find this case
We have opened a case file. Readers can view our cases in the site menu as a dropdown. The entry titled “Kate Osborne MP” appears alongside other organisations. This article is a snapshot, it will not be updated.
What happened
- 24 August 2025: Comments on Ms Osborne’s public Facebook page were disabled during a period of scrutiny. I emailed to note that disabling comments at such a time carries poor democratic optics.
- 24 August 2025, 11:55 pm: The acting office manager replied in a way that reframed a factual accountability point as “accusations”. Tone and framing were inappropriate for a parliamentary office.
- 25 August 2025: I sent a formal complaint to Labour Party HQ and a transparency request for relevant guidance and policies. I also explained that I am autistic, which is directly relevant to communication style and reasonable adjustments.
- Later on 25 August 2025: A further email from the acting office manager attempted to justify tone by invoking his own circumstances. That is not an appropriate response to a standards concern.
- 29 August 2025: No acknowledgement or response from Labour Party HQ. The only communication remains from the person complained about.
Why this matters
MPs and their staff serve the public. When a constituent raises a standards concern, the reply should be impartial, factual, and professional. It should not be handled by the subject of the complaint. It should not mischaracterise a values based point as hostility. It should not ignore disability awareness or reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010.
This is not a party political issue. It is a standards issue. It is about openness, accountability, and the treatment of disabled constituents.
What we expect
- Written acknowledgement from Labour Party HQ that a standards review is in progress.
- Assignment of an impartial reviewer who is not the subject of the complaint.
- A reasonable timeline for a substantive response, with any relevant policies provided or reasons given if withheld.
Any future correspondence may be published separately. This article will remain as a dated record of non response at the time of writing.
