AI Transparency Statement
At The Reasonable Adjustment we are open about the tools we use. This statement explains how and why we use ChatGPT and related AI tools, and what safeguards we apply before anything reaches the public.
Why we use AI
- Maximise clarity – AI helps turn complex legal, safeguarding, and governance material into writing that is sharp, structured, and accessible.
- Increase output – Important stories get documented quickly and consistently, even when health or communication barriers could slow things down.
- Level the playing field – We reach the polish, speed, and reach that larger organisations get through paid staff, consultants, and PR teams.
- Maintain professionalism – AI helps us bring an emotionally detached perspective to sensitive issues. We draft the core ideas, then ChatGPT refines and expands them so the final piece is constructive, factual, and balanced.
What AI does not do
- No invention of evidence – Investigations are based on real documents, data, and firsthand records that we hold and publish where appropriate.
- No replacement of lived experience – Strategies and positions come from people who have been through the systems we write about.
- No automatic publishing – Every article is reviewed, edited, and signed off by us before it goes public.
How we use AI in practice
- Draft and refine – We write the core content. AI assists with structure, clarity, and consistency.
- Evidence check – Claims are tied back to documents or data. If something cannot be supported, it is removed or reworked.
- Plain language pass – We aim for clear language so that readers can follow the logic and verify sources.
Privacy and data handling
We avoid including sensitive personal data in AI prompts unless there is a clear lawful basis or consent. We redact where possible. We store evidence on our own systems, not inside AI tools.
Why this matters
For us, AI is a reasonable adjustment. It helps us work at pace, hold institutions to account, and share knowledge that might otherwise stay buried in paperwork. The goal is not to replace human effort. The goal is to make sure disabled voices are heard and documented.
