In July 2025, The Reasonable Adjustment submitted formal enquiries to the North East Combined Authority (NECA) to confirm whether The Recruitment Junction (TRJ) had ever received public funding. This was prompted by a claim made by TRJ’s CEO, Beverley Brooks, during the complaint process.
❌ Claim: “We receive no public money”
In a signed letter dated 11 July 2025, TRJ CEO Beverley Brooks stated:
“As a charity in receipt of no public money, running a service which is underfunded and oversubscribed, we reserve the right to withdraw our support…”

In direct response to our enquiry, NECA confirmed in writing that:
“The Recruitment Junction received funding from the North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA)… as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.”
This confirmation is sourced from a public funding body. See their reply below:
⚖️ Why This Matters
- Public accountability: If TRJ received public funds, they must adhere to equality, safeguarding, and transparency standards.
- Complaint integrity: Making materially false statements during a formal complaint process raises governance concerns.
- Service user rights: Disabled and neurodivergent individuals deserve honesty and clarity when engaging with funded support services.
🧭 Next Steps
This contradiction is now part of our formal complaint. The matter will be reviewed by TRJ’s Board of Trustees on 15 August 2025. We are also reviewing our right to raise this further with:
- The Charity Commission
- The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman
- Public transparency channels
