Data Has a Funny Way of Surfacing | The Reasonable Adjustment

They say sunlight is the best disinfectant. That’s why I’ve submitted a Freedom of Information request to a local authority regarding its funding, oversight, and handling of complaints tied to a third-party organisation.

The request spans grants, partnerships, safeguarding concerns, internal correspondence, and Equality Act compliance. In other words: the paper trail.

This isn’t about curiosity. It’s about accountability.

Interestingly, part of the request included personal data about me, which triggered a parallel Subject Access Request under UK GDPR. The council tried to send me down the usual route – fill out their standard form, tick their boxes, play their admin game. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to fill out a form to exercise your data rights. The ICO is clear on that. And for disabled people, insisting on rigid formats without offering alternatives isn’t just inflexible – it’s potentially unlawful.

Documents have been submitted. Identity verified. Timers are now running.

No names here, yet. But those watching closely will know exactly what this means.

The clock is ticking. The records are coming. And the net? It’s tightening.
